Really exciting result from the kiln today……totally unexpected…and also unexplained.
I left the blacky chunky clay unglazed to avoid the problem of sagging. I glazed the grogged stoneware clay with copper red a few weeks ago, but was uninspired by the result. I decided to refire with some porcelain slip added onto the glaze. I was expecting the slip to shrink and crack creating a ‘scorched earth’ effect……but instead I got this amazing raspberry ripple finish. The slip was applied very thickly and it appears to have melted into the glaze. The big question is….can it be recreated??
